“And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chief fathers, whom king David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God, and affairs of the king. ”

The shepherd's rod was not for the sheep — it was for predators. The staff was for guiding and steadying the sheep on narrow paths. David walks through the valley of the shadow of death and takes comfort not in the absence of danger, but in the presence of the shepherd's tools. God is equipped for what lies ahead of you.
