“And he carved thereon cherubims and palm trees and open flowers: and covered them with gold fitted upon the carved work.”

Cherubim. Powerful angelic beings who guard the holiness and presence of God. They guarded Eden after the Fall and their images were placed on the Ark of the Covenant.
