“But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”

The one set apart and equipped for a specific task. Oil was poured on kings, priests and prophets in the Old Testament — the anointing meant: this one is chosen, this one is sent. Jesus stands up in Nazareth and reads Isaiah — and then says: this is Me. I am the one sent.

Blood. Haima. The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. His blood speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

Precious, valuable, held in honour. Timios. The precious blood of Christ as of a lamb without blemish. The blood of Jesus is of infinite value. It paid for everything.

A lamb. Amnos. Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. John pointed to Jesus and saw what Abraham had prophesied. God Himself provided the lamb.

Without blemish, faultless. Amomos. Unblemished. Christ presented you holy and blameless. What you cannot make yourself God makes you through Christ.
