Assembly, church, called out ones. Ekklesia. I will build my church. The church is not a building or a programme. It is a people called out by God and gathered around Jesus.

God. Theos. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The ultimate reality. The source of all existence. Personal knowable and present.

To be, to exist. Eimi. When God names himself I AM, he uses this word. Existence itself belongs to him. Ground your identity in the one who simply is.

Judea, land of the Jews. Ioudaia. The region where prophets walked, where David ruled, and where the Son of David was born. Sacred ground does not save; what happened on it must be believed.

The one set apart and equipped for a specific task. Oil was poured on kings, priests and prophets in the Old Testament — the anointing meant: this one is chosen, this one is sent. Jesus stands up in Nazareth and reads Isaiah — and then says: this is Me. I am the one sent.

Jesus. Iesous. The Greek form of Yeshua meaning the LORD saves. The name given before His birth. In His name is salvation healing and authority over every power of darkness.

To suffer, to experience. Pascho. He learned obedience through what He suffered. Suffering is not wasted in God's economy. It produces something that ease never can.

One's own, private, personal. Idios. What belongs to you alone, your particular life and calling. Steward it faithfully.

Fellow countryman, one of your own people. Symphylétēs. Paul used it to describe those who persecuted the Thessalonians from within their own community. Shared heritage is no guarantee of shared faith. Do not mistake familiarity for fellowship.

Just as, in the same way, inasmuch as. Kathōs. God loves, forgives, and gives — and calls us to do likewise. How He acts becomes the pattern for how we act. Live up to the standard.

Jewish, belonging to Judah. Ioudaios. Salvation is from the Jews. God chose a people to bring the Messiah into the world. His choice of Israel was for the benefit of all nations.
