“Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.”
οὖν
Therefore, then, accordingly. Therefore since we have been justified through faith we have peace with God. The therefore of Scripture always builds on something God has already done.

Sleep, slumber, rest. Katheudō. The hour is coming when those who sleep must wake, for night is far spent. Do not sleep as others do. Stay alert.

Watch, stay awake, be alert. Grēgoreúō. The disciples were called to watch while Jesus prayed, yet sleep overcame them. Do not let spiritual drowsiness cost you what vigilance would have kept.

To be sober, to be self-controlled, to be alert. Nepho. Be sober-minded be watchful. Spiritual alertness is not anxiety. It is disciplined awareness of the reality of spiritual warfare.
