“Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;”

The one set apart and equipped for a specific task. Oil was poured on kings, priests and prophets in the Old Testament — the anointing meant: this one is chosen, this one is sent. Jesus stands up in Nazareth and reads Isaiah — and then says: this is Me. I am the one sent.

To anoint, to consecrate. Chrio. God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power. The anointing of Jesus at His baptism was for ministry. The same Spirit anoints you.
