“As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.”

Not just financially poor — ptochos is the one who crouches, who has nothing to stand on. Blessed are those who know they have nothing in themselves before God. That emptiness is not a problem. It is the very space into which the kingdom enters.

To rejoice, to be glad. Chairo. Rejoice in the Lord always. Chairo is more than feeling happy. It is the settled joy of one who knows God is in control and that the outcome is certain.
