“Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.”

The shepherd's rod was not for the sheep — it was for predators. The staff was for guiding and steadying the sheep on narrow paths. David walks through the valley of the shadow of death and takes comfort not in the absence of danger, but in the presence of the shepherd's tools. God is equipped for what lies ahead of you.
