“But of the cities of these people, which the Lord thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:”
נְשָׁמָה
Breath of life. Neshamah. The divine breath blown into Adam's nostrils by God Himself. The moment God breathed neshamah into the dust humanity began. You carry God's breath.
חָיָה
you will let live
