“Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger, nor of the fatherless; nor take a widow’s raiment to pledge:”
חָבַל
To bind, to pledge, to destroy. Chabal. Job says his spirit is broken — chabal. The word carries the weight of something twisted and ruined. Yet even in ruin Job holds on. The God who binds can also unbind. The God who breaks can also restore.
נָטָה
you will turn aside

To incline, to stretch out, to bend. Natah. He inclined His ear to me. God bends down to listen. He positions Himself to hear the faintest cry of His people.

the justice of

Justice, right judgment. Mishpat. Doing what is right and fair in every situation. Let justice roll on like a river. God requires mishpat from His people.
