Ecclesiastes 11:8

“But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.”
הָיָה
I AM. Hayah. The self-existent one. When Moses asked God His name God said I AM THAT I AM. Not I was or I will be but I AM. Always present always existing always enough. Jesus used the same words: before Abraham was I AM.
שָׂמַח
let him be take pleasure

To rejoice, to be glad, to exult. Samach. This is the day the LORD has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Rejoicing in the day is an act of trust in the One who made it.

הֶבֶל
is futility

Vanity, breath, emptiness. Hebel. A breath that vanishes, emptiness. Ecclesiastes says everything apart from God is hebel. It looks solid but it is vapor. Only God endures.

To live, to revive, to preserve alive. Chayah. He revives my soul. God is in the business of revival. He breathes new life into what is dead.

Day. Yom. A period of time. This is the day the LORD has made. Every day is His gift.
