“Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,”

The one set apart and equipped for a specific task. Oil was poured on kings, priests and prophets in the Old Testament — the anointing meant: this one is chosen, this one is sent. Jesus stands up in Nazareth and reads Isaiah — and then says: this is Me. I am the one sent.

To predetermine, to foreordain. Proorizo. Those whom He predestined He also called. God's purposes cannot be thwarted. What He determines will come to pass. Rest in His sovereignty.

Good pleasure, delight, favour. Eudokia. It pleased the Father that in Him all fullness should dwell. God delights in His Son. And He delights in those who are found in His Son.
