“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;”

Grace, favour, gift, charm. Charis. By grace you have been saved through faith. Grace is God giving what we do not deserve. It is His nature expressed toward those who need Him.

Sin, missing the mark. Hamartia. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Sin is not just breaking rules. It is missing the target of what humanity was created to be.

Blood. Haima. The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. His blood speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

Redemption, deliverance by payment. Apolutrosis. In Him we have redemption through His blood. To redeem means to buy back. Jesus paid the price to bring us home.

A false step, a trespass, a falling aside. Because of the trespass of the one man death reigned through that one man. But grace overflows through Jesus Christ.

Forgiveness, release, pardon. Aphesis. Your sins are forgiven. Aphesis means the complete cancellation of debt. Not suspended but cancelled. Gone permanently.
