“For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:”

Equipping, restoring, making complete. Katartismos. For the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry. The church exists to equip not just to entertain. Every member is a minister.

Work, deed, act. Ergon. We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works. Good works are not the root of salvation. They are the fruit of it.

The one set apart and equipped for a specific task. Oil was poured on kings, priests and prophets in the Old Testament — the anointing meant: this one is chosen, this one is sent. Jesus stands up in Nazareth and reads Isaiah — and then says: this is Me. I am the one sent.
