“Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands;”
צְבִי
The deer does not philosophise about water. It simply knows it needs it and runs toward it. The psalmist in the middle of exile, surrounded by enemies, uses this image — my whole being runs toward You the way a deer runs to water. Thirst for God is not weakness. It is the most honest thing a soul can do.
