“And he knew it, and said, It is my son’s coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces.”

Life, living. Chay. The quality of being alive. The same root as Chayim, life in its fullness. God breathed chay into Adam's nostrils and he became a living soul.

A coat, a long garment. Kethoneth. Jacob gave Joseph a coat of many colours. The coat of favour became the coat of suffering before the coat of glory came.
