“They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;”

To tempt, to test, to try. Peirazo. He was tempted in every way just as we are yet was without sin. Jesus was tested in every area of human weakness. He understands your struggle.

To fall short, to be behind, to lack. Hustereo. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. The gap between who we are and who God is can only be bridged by grace.

To press, to crowd, to afflict. Thlibo. We are pressed on every side but not crushed. The pressure is real. But so is the power that keeps you from being destroyed by it.

Fear, reverence, awe. Phobos. His mercy is on those who fear Him. The fear that pleases God is not terror. It is reverence. The awe of one who truly knows who God is.
