“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;”

Therefore, then, accordingly. Therefore since we have been justified through faith we have peace with God. The therefore of Scripture always builds on something God has already done.

That, in order that, so that. Hina. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son in order that whoever believes in Him should not perish. The purpose of the cross is clear.

Flesh, body, human nature. Sarx. The Word became flesh. God took on human nature completely. He knows from the inside what it means to be human. He is not a distant deity.

Child, boy, little one. Paidion. Unless you turn and become like children you will never enter the kingdom. Childlike dependence and trust is the posture God honours most.

Death. Thanatos. O death where is your sting? Death has been swallowed up in victory. Jesus did not just survive death. He destroyed its power for everyone who believes.

To render ineffective, to abolish, to destroy. Katargeo. He who had the power of death that is the devil was destroyed. The work of the devil has been undone by Christ.

Devil, slanderer, accuser. Diabolos. The devil prowls around like a roaring lion. His primary weapon is accusation. The blood of Jesus silences every accusation.
