“Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:”

Desert, wilderness, solitary place. Eremos. He withdrew to a wilderness place and prayed. The wilderness is not punishment. It is often the training ground for the greatest seasons.

Bitterness, exasperation, embitterment. Get rid of all bitterness rage and anger brawling and slander along with every form of malice. Bitterness is a poison. Remove it completely.

To harden, to make callous. Skleruno. Harden not your hearts as in the day of testing. Hardening is a gradual process. Repeated rejection of God's voice slowly closes the heart.

Trial, test, temptation. Peirasmos. God is faithful and will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. The test has a limit. God measures what you can handle.

Day. Hemera. This is the day the LORD has made. Every day is a gift from God. The right response to any day is rejoicing in the One who gave it.
