“And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?”

Jewish, belonging to Judah. Ioudaios. Salvation is from the Jews. God chose a people to bring the Messiah into the world. His choice of Israel was for the benefit of all nations.

Priest. Hiereus. You are a royal priesthood. Every believer has direct access to God. The priesthood of all believers means no human mediator is needed. Jesus is enough.
