“And when they came unto the borders of Jordan, that are in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by Jordan, a great altar to see to.”

The shepherd's rod was not for the sheep — it was for predators. The staff was for guiding and steadying the sheep on narrow paths. David walks through the valley of the shadow of death and takes comfort not in the absence of danger, but in the presence of the shepherd's tools. God is equipped for what lies ahead of you.
