“And he said, They were my brethren, even the sons of my mother: as the Lord liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.”
חַי
Life, living. Chay. The quality of being alive. The same root as Chayim, life in its fullness. God breathed chay into Adam's nostrils and he became a living soul.

To kill, to slay. Harag. Though He slay me yet will I trust Him. Job's faith did not depend on favourable circumstances. It was unconditional.

To live, to revive, to preserve alive. Chayah. He revives my soul. God is in the business of revival. He breathes new life into what is dead.
