“Then shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two birds alive and clean, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop:”

Life, living. Chay. The quality of being alive. The same root as Chayim, life in its fullness. God breathed chay into Adam's nostrils and he became a living soul.
