“And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,”

To choose, to select, to elect. Eklegomai. You did not choose Me but I chose you. Being chosen by God precedes everything else. Your relationship with God began with His initiative.
