When Jesus teaches His disciples to pray, He begins with the most radical word imaginable — Father. In the ancient world, approaching God as Father was almost unthinkable. Jesus opens the door and says: this is how you come. Not as a subject before a king. As a child before a Father who already knows what you need.

Kid, young goat. Ériphos. At the final judgment, the Son of Man separates the sheep from the goats. Which side you stand on reveals the whole direction of your life. Choose now who you serve.

Friend, beloved companion. Philos. Abraham was called the friend of God, and Jesus named his disciples friends, not servants. To be known as philos by God is the highest standing a person can hold. Pursue that closeness.

No, not, never. Mé. The softest Greek negative, used to deny what is possible or expected. When God says no, he means it.

Rejoice, be glad, make merry. Euphraínō. The father of the prodigal son commanded, "Let us eat and be merry," because what was lost had been found. Gladness is the proper response to grace. Let it show.
