“And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?”
σημεῖον
Sign, miracle, token, wonder. Semeion. Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe. Signs point beyond themselves. The miracle is never the main thing. It points to the One who does it.
