Heroic, kingly name. Hērṓdēs. Four rulers bore this name across the New Testament, each wielding power against God's purposes. A name meaning heroic is no guarantee of heroic deeds. Judge by fruit, not title.

Behold, look, see. Idou. Scripture uses this word to arrest attention before something significant. God is about to speak. Pay attention.

No one, nothing, none. No one can snatch them out of My hand. The security of the believer rests not in their grip but in His. And His grip never fails.

Death. Thanatos. O death where is your sting? Death has been swallowed up in victory. Jesus did not just survive death. He destroyed its power for everyone who believes.
