“Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.”

Not just financially poor — ptochos is the one who crouches, who has nothing to stand on. Blessed are those who know they have nothing in themselves before God. That emptiness is not a problem. It is the very space into which the kingdom enters.
