“And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.”
παρά
From, beside, by the side of. Apart from Me you can do nothing. Total dependence on Jesus is not weakness. It is the only path to fruitfulness.

To go out, come forth, depart. Exerchomai. Jesus regularly withdrew from crowds to pray, and sent his disciples out into the world. Movement is often the shape of obedience. Go when you are sent.

To hold fast, to keep a grip on. Hold fast to what is good. In a world of shifting values grip tightly to what God says is true and right.

To say, to speak with authority. Jesus said and it was so. When Jesus speaks everything listens. His words carry the weight of creation behind them.

Astonished, out of one's mind. Existemi. The crowds were amazed, beside themselves, when they witnessed the works of God. Let wonder be your response to the divine.
