“And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;”
ὄχλος
A crowd, a multitude, a mob. He saw a great crowd and had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. His response to crowds was always compassion.
