The one set apart and equipped for a specific task. Oil was poured on kings, priests and prophets in the Old Testament — the anointing meant: this one is chosen, this one is sent. Jesus stands up in Nazareth and reads Isaiah — and then says: this is Me. I am the one sent.

To live, to be alive. Zao. I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live. Life in Scripture is always relational. To live is to be connected to the source of life.

Death. Thanatos. O death where is your sting? Death has been swallowed up in victory. Jesus did not just survive death. He destroyed its power for everyone who believes.

To die, to be dying. Apothnesko. For me to live is Christ and to die is gain. Death for the believer is not loss. It is arrival. It is the beginning of everything.

Gain, profit, advantage. Whatever gain I had I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. When you lose everything for Jesus you gain everything that matters.
