“And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,”

Devil, slanderer, accuser. Diabolos. The devil prowls around like a roaring lion. His primary weapon is accusation. The blood of Jesus silences every accusation.

A serpent, a snake. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness so the Son of Man must be lifted up. The bronze serpent was a shadow of the cross.
