“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.”

Therefore, then, accordingly. Therefore since we have been justified through faith we have peace with God. The therefore of Scripture always builds on something God has already done.

Mortal, subject to death. Thnētos. What is mortal must put on immortality. Our dying bodies are the very vessels through which resurrection power is made visible. Do not despise the flesh; trust the promise.

To obey, to listen under authority. Hupakouo. To obey is better than sacrifice. Obedience is the truest form of worship. It is love in action not just in words.

Desire, craving, longing. Epithumia. Do not fulfil the desires of the flesh. The flesh pulls toward what destroys. The Spirit pulls toward what gives life. Choose which you feed.
