“There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:”

Jewish, belonging to Judah. Ioudaios. Salvation is from the Jews. God chose a people to bring the Messiah into the world. His choice of Israel was for the benefit of all nations.
