“And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.”

Sign, miracle, token, wonder. Semeion. Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe. Signs point beyond themselves. The miracle is never the main thing. It points to the One who does it.

Evil, wicked, bad. Poneros. Deliver us from the evil one. The evil one has a name but no ultimate power. He operates only within the limits God permits. His defeat is certain.
