“And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.”

Twelve, a dozen. Dōdeka. Twelve tribes, twelve apostles, God builds his people in deliberate number. Nothing in his design is accidental.

Gateway, entryway, portal. Pylṓn. The angel stood at the pylṓn of the holy city, and nothing unclean could pass through. Every threshold declares whose house this is. Mind what you enter.

Pearl. Margarites. The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls. The pearl of great price is worth everything you have. The kingdom demands and deserves total surrender.

Each, every one. Hékastos. Every knee will bow, and every tongue confess. No one is overlooked, and no one is exempt. Account for yourself.

Broad, wide, spacious. Platys. Enter through the narrow gate, for broad is the way that leads to destruction. Width is not always a blessing. Choose the narrow path.

City, town. Polis. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. The church is meant to be visible. Its light is for the community around it. Hide nothing. Let it shine.

Gold. Chrusion. Your faith more precious than gold. Gold is refined by fire. So is faith. The trials that test your faith are producing something more valuable than any metal.

Pure, clean, undefiled. Katharos. Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God. Purity of heart is not perfection of behaviour. It is undivided loyalty to God.

Glass, transparent material. Hýalos. John saw the heavenly sea like glass, clear as crystal before the throne. What is opaque to us now will one day be made perfectly clear. Await that day.
