Master, commander, one set over. Epistátēs. Those who followed Jesus called Him this, recognizing authority placed over them. Submit to the one appointed above you.

Whole, complete, entire. Holos. Love the Lord your God with all your heart. God does not want a portion of you. He wants all of you. Half-hearted devotion is not devotion.

Night, darkness. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. Your identity is light.

Toil, labor to exhaustion. Kopiáō. Paul says he labored harder than all, yet not he but the grace of God with him. Bring your full effort; grace meets it.

No one, nothing, none. No one can snatch them out of My hand. The security of the believer rests not in their grip but in His. And His grip never fails.

Receive, take, accept. Lambanō. What God offers must be actively received, not merely acknowledged. Reach out and take hold.

Not logos — the written word — but rhema, the word spoken in the moment. The angel says to Mary: no rhema from God shall be without power. Every specific word God speaks into your situation carries the ability to accomplish itself. He does not speak empty words.

To lower, let down, release. Chaláō. Paul was lowered in a basket through a wall to escape death, and nets were let down at Christ's word into the deep. Sometimes obedience means releasing your grip. Let down what he tells you to.

Fishing net, seine. Díktyon. Jesus called fishermen who knew how to cast nets, then sent them to gather people. The net is only useful when it is thrown.
